We have exciting news – in collaboration with Nature Newfoundland and Labrador and Fishing For Success we have been awarded funding through Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Habitat Stewardship Program to complete a project focused on the development of an American Eel recruitment protocol for Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador and increase stewardship efforts of aquatic species at risk until 2028!
This project would not have been possible without the support from Louis Macdonald – North Atlantic Aquaponics Ltd, SEM Ltd. MAMKA, Ducks Unlimited – NL Chapter, Coastal Action, Salmonid Association of Eastern Newfoundland, and the Fluvarium!
You will find us at Quidi Vidi every morning checking for juvenile American Eel (elvers) and at the Quidi Vidi Wharf on July 16 and July 26 to talk about our project and aquatic species at risk! In the third year of the project we will be set up on the Petty Harbour River to test our methods in a different river system!
