In collaboration with Nature Newfoundland and Labrador, Aquatic Conservation Initiative has been awarded funding for a three-year wetlands project through the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Fund.
This project will span three rural communities on the eastern coast of the island of Newfoundland, including Bonavista, Swift Current, and St. Shott’s. Our team at Aquatic Conservation Initiative, will lead water quality sampling, assessment of wetland ecosystem services, study American eel and Salmonid habitat, and inventory flora and fauna across these field sites!
Alongside our work, Nature NL will lead community outreach and education events highlighting the importance of wetland environments. Nature NL is hosting BioBlitz and Nature Walk events in:
